Advanced Research and Development (R&D) is a major strength of DII. DII has the ability to transfer technology from the early stages of conceptualization to direct application.

DII is currently involved in advanced R&D projects involving multi-modal energy harvesting. DII's research has broad applications for micro air vehicles, wireless sensor networks, and ultra-low power electronics.

DII has also developed advanced data-mining and text-mining systems for use in the defense industry.  Some of these tools and technologies have been extended to the pharmaceutical industry.

DII also develops a wide array of applications and systems based on artificial intelligence.  DII staff members have many years of professional experience in areas such as expert systems, neural networks, and advanced engineering optimization.
